Basketball Recap: Anderson Gets the Win

Anderson's tournament run continued when they took on Rio Vista on Thursday. The Anderson Cubs came out on top against the Rio Vista Rams by a score of 41-29. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cubs.

Taylor Ford was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 33 boards. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 26 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Payten Ford, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 18 rebounds.

Anderson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 45 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Rio Vista's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Samiah Holley, who almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, 11 rebounds, and 11 steals, and Guadalupe Valdenegro, who posted seven points along with ten steals and six boards. With that strong performance, Holley is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. Makyla Mandujano was another key player, putting up two points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Anderson's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Rio Vista, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Anderson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 31-23 defeat against Pierce on the 13th. As for Rio Vista, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 45-29 loss against Dixon on the 13th.
