Softball Recap: Hardaway Has No Trouble Against Jordan

Hardaway came out on top against Jordan on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run first inning. The Hawks put the hurt on the Red Jackets with a sharp 14-2 win. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.

Naryah Wilson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Wilson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kamiya Whittlesey and Daisia Crutchfield did most of the damage at the plate: Whittlesey went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run, while Crutchfield went 2-for-3 with six stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Whittlesey a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaedyn Jackson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and one run.

Hardaway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Hardaway and bumps their season record up to 7-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Jordan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

Hardaway will head out to face off against Monroe at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Golden Tornadoes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13 runs per game on average), something the Hawks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Jordan, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Columbus at 5:30 p.m.
