With the high school football regular season nearing the end in Florida, we are highlighting the state's leading rushers. Fifteen running backs in the Sunshine State have rushed for at least 1,300 yards.
Tayshaun Balmir of
Pasco (Dade City) leads the state with 1,665 rushing yards. The senior has gone for 200-plus yards four times this season. On eight carries last week, Balmir carried the rock for 158 yards and scored both of the Pirates' touchdowns as Pasco moved to 7-1.
Jason Patterson of
Sneads is second in the state with 1,632 rushing yards. The junior has rushed for 362 yards the last two weeks and his team is 9-0. Patterson started the season on fire by rushing for 498 yards and seven touchdowns in the second game of the season. He has offers from Georgia Tech and South Florida.
Kayleb Wagner of
Baker is seventh in Florida with 1,455 rushing yards. Last season Wagner took down Derrick Henry’s single-game rushing record and has gone over 200 yards on five occasions this year. Wagner was born without a left hand and part of his forearm due to a genetic condition called amniotic band syndrome. He is committed to Southern Illinois.
