MaxPreps continues its preview of the 2023-24 high school girls
basketball season with a look at the best player in every state. We've already looked at the best team in each state and dropped our Preseason MaxPreps All-America Team.
From Alabama to Wyoming and every state in between, we searched
coast-to-coast to find the best player from your state heading into the season.
Alabama
Ace Austin, Spring Garden5-6 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
The Alabama commit is closing in on 3,000 career points after earning Miss Basketball and MaxPreps Player of the Year honors last season. Won a Class 1A title while averaging 20.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.5 steals.
Alaska
6-0 | Forward | Senior (Class of 2025)
Behind Lentfer, the Grizzlies are 51-5 over the past two seasons with a pair of Class 3A titles. The UC Davis commit averaged 20.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 2.1 assists per game.
Arizona
6-4 | Center | Junior (Class of 2026)
Helped the Gators to the Open Division state title, averaging 12.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. She had games of 14, 20, 17 and 16 and averaged 7.4 rebounds per night during the postseason run.
Arkansas
5-7 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
Averaged around 18 points and five rebounds per game as a junior, topping the 1,000-point mark for her career as the Wampus Cats reached the Class 6A final. She made more than 100 3-pointers in each of the last two seasons and recently committed to Central Arkansas.
6-2 | Forward | Junior (Class of 2026)
Last year's MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year and first team All-American looks to lead the Monarchs to a third straight Open Division state title game after averaging a team-high 22.1 points per game along with 7.3 rebounds and
2.0 steals. She shot 64 percent from the field.
6-4 | Center | Senior (Class of 2025)
The UCLA commit led the Wolves to the Class 6A
tournament, averaging 22.5 points, 15.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.2
steals per game. She joined sister
Lauren as a MaxPreps All-American last season.
Connecticut
6-0 | Forward | Junior (Class of 2026)
Approaching 1,000 career points, she averaged 20 and 10 for the 22-4 Lions as they won the Class MM title a year after taking the Class S crown. She was a first-team All-State pick and shot 41 percent from 3-point territory.
5-7 | Point guard | Sophomore (Class of 2027)
Already getting
offers from the likes of Ohio State, South Carolina and Texas, Banks
averaged 21.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.6 per game as a freshman. She
helped the Raiders to an 18-6 mark and state title, scoring 29 points
in the championship game and hitting a free throw with
1.9 seconds left for a 49-48 win over Caravel
(Bear).
6-0 | Forward | Uncommitted
Averaged nearly 24
points per game along with 7.5 assists while shooting better than 70
percent for state champion McDonogh last year. The transfer has already topped 1,000 career points.
6-1 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
Averaged 24.5
points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game as the
Skippers went 29-2 and won the Class AAAA state title. In a 64-56 win
over Hopkins (Minnetonka) in the state title game, Crump
went for 23 points. She averaged 27 per game in three state tournament
outings.
Georgia
5-9 | Guard | Junior (Class of 2026)
The daughter of former NBA player Matt Harpring had a huge summer that saw her stock rise on the heels of a sensational sophomore season. She scored 45 points in the
Class AAAAAA semifinals en route to winning the state title. On the
season, she averaged 27.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.7 steals and 4.3
assists per game while shooting 58 percent from the field. She finished with more than 1,500 career points, the fastest in school
history to reach that milestone.
5-7 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
Returns after leading the Raiders to their fifth straight Division 1 title and being named tournament's Most Outstanding Player. She averaged 8.2 points per night and dropped 13 in the championship win.
5-11 | Forward | Senior (Class of 2025)
A future Ivy Leaguer headed to Columbia, she averaged 23.9 points per game and 8.0 rebounds for the Class 4A runner-up. She is a three-time, first-team All-State player who is closing in on 1,800 career points.
Illinois
5-6 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
Nearing 2,000 career points after averaging 16.6 points and 6.3 rebounds last season. She led the 27-6 Dolphins in points and rebounds last season.
6-1 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
The Bears won
their first state title behind Lampley's team-high 18.0 points per game. She enters her senior year with 1,276 career
points.
5-10 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
Recently committed to Kim Mulkey and LSU, she helped the Wildcats to a
22-3 record and Class 5A playoff appearance, averaging 19.8 points, 9.3
rebounds, 5.6 assists and 2.8 steals per
night.
6-1 | Forward | Senior (Class of 2025)
On pace to become
the school's all-time leading scorer, she averaged 19.8 points and 7.4
rebounds per game while shooting 63 percent from the field. Davis helped
the Mustangs to a 20-5 record and third-place finish in Class 6A.
6-1 | Forward | Senior (Class of 2025)
Already a three-time
Player of the Year choice, Johnson led the Valkyries to their fourth
straight state title, becoming the first team to four-peat. She
averaged 18.9 points, 7.3
rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game for 31-7 Sacred Heart.
6-5 | Center | Sophomore (Class of 2027)
The Tigers reached the Division IV Non-Select quarterfinals behind the five-star that has offers from LSU and South Carolina. Can score with back to the basket and hit the jumper, she averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds as the Tigers went 19-8.
Maine
5-11 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
A first-team All-State selection, she averaged 19.7 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists as the Vikings went 16-6.
6-0 | Guard | Sophomore (Class of 2027)
A potential star, the MaxPreps Freshman All-American put up 15.6 points, 10.3 rebound and 2.5 steals per game to help the Bulldogs go 24-8.
5-8 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
A Sun Chronicle All-Star and Tufts University commit, she averaged 14.4 points and drained 70 3-pointers in helping the Shamrocks to a Division 1 title.
5-11 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
The All-State first team selection averaged 16 points per night while leading the Rams to a 26-2 record and Division 1 final appearance. The Butler commit is the school's all-time assist leader.
5-8 | Guard | Junior (Class of 2026)
Already topped 3,000
career points after putting up 34.2 points per night this season for the
Lions. In the Class AA championship game, Greenway dropped 27 as
Providence Academy finished 29-4. She also averaged 8.8 rebounds and 7.5
assists.
Mississippi
5-11 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
The Class 2A Miss Basketball had scored more than 2,500 points in her career. She averaged 19.9 points and 6.1 rebounds for the 32-4 Falcons as they grabbed the 2A title.
Missouri
6-2 | Guard | Junior (Class of 2026)
Helped the USA Basketball U17 team to a gold over the summer. Being chased by more than 40 Division I programs. She averaged nearly 15 points and 9 rebounds for the Panthers last season.
Montana
5-9 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
A three-sport athlete who averaged 8.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists as the Falcons went 23-0 and won the Class AA title. She earned All-State honors and is headed to Montana State-Billings to play basketball and soccer. She also won the the Class AA shot put title last year with a second in discus and third in javelin.
Nebraska
6-0 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
A Creighton commit along with sister Norah, she averaged 18.6 points per night for the Wildcats as they went 27-1 and grabbed the Class A title. She topped the 20-point mark 12 times and added 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per night for Millard West.
Nevada
6-2 | Guard | Sophomore (Class of 2027)
The phenom has a family legacy in basketball as her mother is Natalie Williams, a former WNBA player and GM of the Las Vegas Aces, and her grandfather Nate Williams played eight years in the NBA. She helped the Bulldogs to the Class 5A title game as a freshman and holds multiple Division I offers.
New Hampshire
The first-team All-State pick is back for the Bulldogs after averaging 13.8 points per game. Also a volleyball standout, she looks to help the Bulldogs to repeat as Division 1 champions as they take a 24-game win streak into the season. She will pass the 1,000 career point mark early in the season.
5-6 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
The Crusaders were 29-1 and won a second straight Non-Public B state title as the Tennessee commit averaged 19.9 points, 5.9 assists, 4.3
rebounds and 3.1 steals per game, shooting 56 percent from the field.
5-9 | Guard | Class of 2025
Averaged 20.8
points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.4 steals per game as the
Matadors went 28-3 and won the Class 5A title. In a 49-45 win over
Volcano Vista (Albuquerque) in the championship, she
scored a game-high 35 points – including 18 in the fourth quarter.
6-4 | Post | Sophomore | UncommittedAveraged
17.5 points, 18.8 rebounds and 3.6 blocked shots per game in leading
Christ the King (29-3) to the CHSAA AA championship. In the title-game
victory, she scored 24 along with 16 rebounds and four blocks.
North Carolina
5-10 | Guard | Uncommitted
Scored a team-high 19 points per
game along with 3.6 rebounds for the 25-5 Villains as they reached the
Class 1A state quarterfinals.
6-3 | Guard | Junior (Class of 2026)
Averaged 26.1 points and
11.1 rebounds per game as the Magicians went 32-9 and grabbed a
fourth-place finish in the Class AA tournament.
6-1 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
The Cincinnati commit became the seventh player to win
Ohio Ms. Basketball honors twice after leading the Cavaliers to a 28-1 record
and third straight Division II championship. Averaged 18.4 points, 8.0
rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game, shooting 64 percent from
the field. Alexander is 81-4 in her Purcell Marian career.
Oklahoma
5-11 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)A recent Kansas commit, the five-star averaged 26.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.6 steals per night last season as the Tigers went 17-10.
6-1 | Forward | Senior (Class of 2025)Led the Cavaliers to
a 24-4 record and third-place finish in Class 6A, averaging 26.4
points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 2.6 assists per game. The USC commit has led Clackamas to a
50-8 record over the past two seasons with a title in 2023.
5-10 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
Averaged 25.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 2.1 assists per
game. She shot 54 percent from the field with a high of 41 points in the state quarterfinals. Smith is approaching 2,000 career points looks to lead Audenried to a third straight Philadelphia Public League title.
5-10 | Guard | Junior (Class of 2026)
Averaged 20.6 points and 11.6 rebounds per game while earning All-State honors. The Quakers lost in the Division 2 final but came back and won the Rhode Island state tournament with a 48-32 win over Division 1 Barrington. In that game she posted 29 points with 17 rebounds.
South Carolina
5-9 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
For the first time in years, someone not named Joyce Edwards graces this spot. Jacobs, an Ole Miss commit, averaged 31.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.2 steals and 2.1 assists as the Highlanders won the SCISA 4A state title.
6-3 | Guard/Forward | Junior (Class of 2026)
Also a volleyball standout for the Red Raiders, she averaged 21.3 points and 11.5 rebounds with 4.0 blocks and 3.9 assists last season. A Class A first-team All-State pick, the four-star has offers from Duke, Virginia Tech, Clemson and Ohio State among others.
6-3 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
A standout in volleyball as well, the recent Tennessee commit is a five-star who can fill the bucket. She averaged 14.9 points and 8.7 rebounds last year as the Blue Raiders went 24-10.
5-7 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)Regarded as the No. 1
prospect in her class, Chavez averaged 37.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.4
assists and 3.5 steals per game for the Plainsmen (31-6). She topped the
50-point mark five times, going for a high of 57 in a non-league
matchup against Plano.
6-0 | Point guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
Skinner led the
Riverhawks to a 25-2 record and their second straight Class 4A title.
She averaged 24.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.6 steals per
game. She shot
nearly 60 percent and dropped 27 in the state semifinals.
5-8 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
Also a soccer and
track and field standout, Brueck led the basketball team to a 21-3 record and a Division 2 championship game appearance. She averaged 17.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.6 steals
and 3.1 assists per game.
6-1 | Wing | Senior (Class of 2025)
Averaged 19.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game for the VISAA Division 1 state champions. She is headed to Chapel Hill to play for the Tar Heels and is approaching 1,500 career points.
6-3 | Forward | Senior (Class of 2025)
The Class 2B Player of the Year transferred from Colfax for her final season after averaging 17.8 points and 10.0 rebounds as a junior. She compiled more than 40 Division I offers before committing to Washington.
5-8 | Guard | Senior (Class of 2025)
Earned state
tournament MVP honors as the Patriots went 25-4 and won the Class 4A
title. Bordas averaged 24.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.2
assists per game. She has scored over 1,700 points and led Wheeling Park
to a 69-12 record
with two state championship game appearances in her three years in the
program.
Wisconsin
5-10 | Guard | Maryland
The Polar Bears went 22-6, reaching
the Division 1 quarterfinals behind Welson's 23.3 points per game. She
shot 47 percent and added 4.1 rebounds with 3.5 assists and 2.1 steals.
Wyoming
6-0 | Forward | Uncommitted
The sophomore is a three-sport standout who helped the Broncs to the Class 4A title and 21-6 record, averaging 17.0 points and 9.2 rebounds. She was a Class 4A first-time All-State selection.
