The Mt. Carmel Sundevils will take on the La Costa Canyon Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Mt. Carmel has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Mt. Carmel is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Torrey Pines. The game was the first time the Sundevils have beaten the Falcons on their field since May 18, 2016.

Mt. Carmel got a great performance from Cooper Cote as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. The dominant performance also gave Cote a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nate Godbold, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Mt. Carmel is 5-1-1 when Godbold posts two or more runs, but 12-13 otherwise. Carson Weber was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon came tearing into Friday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Falcons. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mavericks have posted against the Falcons since April 23, 2024.
Joey Ras looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, La Costa Canyon got a massive performance out of Will Friedrichs, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Tanner Hellman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Mt. Carmel's record is now 17-14-1. As for La Costa Canyon, their record now sits at 16-14.
Mt. Carmel skirted past La Costa Canyon 4-3 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sundevils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
