The Homer-Center Wildcats suffered their biggest defeat since December 1, 2023 on Wednesday. They were the victim of a tough 54-33 defeat at the hands of Portage. While losing is never fun, Homer-Center can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 317th, while Portage is ranked 37th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Portage to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cami Burkett, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Burkett's trending in the right direction, as she's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Bednarksi, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Homer-Center's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Portage, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 17-1.
Homer-Center will be playing in front of their home fans against Penns Manor at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. As for Portage, they will head out on the road to square off against Northern Cambria at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
