The Chavez Titans will venture away from home to square off against the Minarets Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Chavez comes in on four and Minarets on six.
Chavez is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past McLane 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Daniel Carrillo made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other pitching news, Christian Carino looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jayden Popoy, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.
Chavez hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Minarets narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Santa Maria 7-6.
Like Chavez, Minarets also got a great game from a two-way player: Jamie Spurgeon. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Spurgeon was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Torin Wolf was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Renzo Conti, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Chavez's record now sits at 16-11-1. As for Minarets, their record is now 22-8-1.
Chavez might still be hurting after the 7-1 defeat they got from Minarets in their previous matchup back in March of 2018. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
