The Webb Gauls will take on the Rolling Hills Prep Huskies at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Webb is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
Webb is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Crossroads Christian 24-15. The Gauls' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Webb got a massive performance out of Andres Caballero, who got on base in all six of his plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Caballero has posted since back in February. Michel Fountain was another key player, going 3-for-6 with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Webb kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Rolling Hills Prep sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Temecula Prep on Tuesday.
Matthew Moyer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. He is becoming a predictor of Rolling Hills Prep's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 8-11 when he doesn't). Moyer was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Samuel Lopez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs. He has become a key player for Rolling Hills Prep: the team is 7-3 when he posts at least three hits, but 4-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Hernandez, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
The victory got Rolling Hills Prep back to even at 11-11. As for Webb, their record is now 9-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Webb has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Rolling Hills Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
