Gavin Barnes looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Garrett Taylor and Hyatt Richardson did most of the damage at the plate: Taylor went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Richardson scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That home run marked the first that Taylor launched this season.
Meanwhile, Union County was able to grind out a solid victory over Santa Fe on Thursday, taking the game 5-2.
Erick Lasseter was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Lasseter was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-3. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Union County is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-11 otherwise.
Lasseter wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was DEVIN DIGGS, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Lafayette's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Union County, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
Lafayette beat Union County 11-7 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
