The California Interscholastic Federation announced the brackets for the
boys and girls state basketball playoffs Sunday. The finals will be
held March 8-9 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
As expected,
Harvard-Westlake (Studio City) grabbed the top-seed in the boys Southern California Open Division regional after the Wolverines downed Roosevelt 53-47 in the Southern Section Open Division final on Friday. Harvard-Westlake, the reigning CIF Open Division champion, grabbed the top seed in the Southern California Open Division regional. In the north,
Salesian College Preparatory (Richmond) earned the top seed and a first-round bye as did No. 2
Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco).
On the girls side, No. 1
Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) earned a top seed in the Northern California Open Division regional and will look to win the state title after falling the past two seasons to No. 3
Etiwanda and No. 4
Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth). Those two squads highlight the Southern California Open Division regional with the Etiwanda grabbing the top seed after winning the Southern Section title 65-44 on Friday. Etiwanda won last year's Open Division title 69-67 on a last-second putback over Archbishop Mitty.
