This week's high school football slate features four MaxPreps Top 25 matchups led by No. 1
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) vs. No. 2
Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) at the Santa Ana Bowl on Friday. It will be the 14th meeting between the nation's two top-ranked teams since 2000.
Mater Dei opened its season with a 42-25 win against
Centennial (Corona, Calif.).
Dash Beierly threw for two scores in his Monarchs debut and accounted for 161 yards of total offense. Oregon-bound running back
Jordon Davison had 122 yards on the ground and a touchdown. The defense forced three turnovers and
Tomu Topui returned a blocked punt for a score.
Bishop Gorman enters Friday's showdown riding a 27-game win streak. The Gaels rolled past
Kahuku (Hawaii) 33-7 to open the season and showed resiliency in a 29-21 comeback win at No. 8
St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), erasing a 21-10 third-quarter deficit by scoring the final 19 points.
No. 23 Bergen Catholic at No. 24
Massillon (Ohio) rounds out the four MaxPreps Top 25 matchups. Massillon is riding an 18-game win streak and senior quarterback
Jalen Slaughter is off to a hot start, throwing for 790 and six touchdowns in two games.

Hart and Boggs have proven to be one of the best quarterback-wide receiver duos in high school football. Through two games Hart has completed 33 of 48 passes for 601 yards and seven touchdowns. Boggs has 15 receptions for 333 yards and five scores. Hawkins has been tremendous for the Ascenders, accounting for at least 260 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in each game.

St. Frances Academy begins a tough three-week stretch of facing No. 19 Orange Lutheran, No. 6
Duncanville (Texas) and No. 1 Mater Dei. The Lancers also have a rough road ahead with road games at No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) and No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) following St. Frances. Orange Lutheran took home the No. 1 spot for the
toughest schedule this season, while the Panthers check in at No. 3.

Bergen Catholic is trying to avoid losing two games in a season for the first time since 2019. The Crusaders dropped their season opener 27-14 against IMG Academy. Porter was a huge bright spot for the three-time defending Non-Public A champs, hauling in six receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown. Massillon was in a tough battle to open the season against NFL Academy of England but prevailed with a 35-20 win. The Tigers cruised to a 45-0 win over
GlenOak (Canton) last week.

DeSoto reeled off its 23rd straight win with a 70-0 victory over
Creekside (Fairburn, Ga.) last week. Virginia Tech-bound quarterback
Kelden Ryan made his debut in that one, accounting for 231 yards of total offense and four touchdowns.
Daylon Singleton had four catches for 111 yards and two scores. North Crowley's only loss since the beginning of last season came against Duncanville in the Class 6A Division 1 semifinals. The Panthers beat
Lancaster 29-21 in the Jerry Jones Classic at The Star to open the season.

After Serra's 22-21 win at
Folsom last week, this matchup against De La Salle will have huge implications when it comes to representing Northern California in the Open Division state championship. De La Salle cruised to a 42-14 win against
Grant (Sacramento) in its season opener. Both teams are just outside of the MaxPreps Top 25 and a win Friday could put them over the hump. Serra handed De La Salle its worst shutout loss since 1979 with a 28-0 win last season.

Sierra Canyon bounced back in a big way after a 35-7 loss against
JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano), beating
Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 35-10. The defense had five sacks and two interceptions. Young returned one for a 22-yard pick-six and Riordan intercepted his fifth pass of the season. The Braves scored 70 points for the first time since 2016 with a 71-14 win over
Eastwood (El Paso, Texas) last week. Fuiava has been great for St. John Bosco through his first two starts throwing for 568 yards and five touchdowns.

Chaminade-Madonna has dropped two heartbreaking games to begin the season. After a 34-27 loss against St. John Bosco, the Lions lost in overtime to
Blanche Ely (Pompano Beach) 35-34. Now they have to beat the No. 14 team in the MaxPreps Top 25 to avoid an 0-3 start. American Heritage rolled to a 51-12 win over
Western (Davie) after a tough 37-28 loss against No. 4
Milton (Ga.). Bell and Toney have been one of the most dynamic duos in high school football. Bell has thrown for 489 yards and seven touchdown, while Toney has reeled in 15 receptions for 230 yards and four scores.
Saturday, 1 p.m.
Top players
Boyle County puts a 22-game win streak on the line in a matchup of defending state champs. St. Edward has won the last three Division I state titles in Ohio while Boyle County has won four consecutive 4A state crowns in Kentucky. St. Edward had one of the most impressive wins last week beating
St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia, Pa.) 35-21. White ran for over 100 yards and had two touchdowns. Quisenberry has been electric and is coming off a three touchdown performance in last week's 48-8 win over
Bryan Station (Lexington).
Top players
Expect both teams to be in the mix to contend for a state title this year. Douglas County is in AAAAAA while Langston Hughes is in AAAAA. The Panthers have scored 52 points in each game and have one of the most balanced offenses in the Peach State. The Tigers are allowing 10 points per game. Bordeaux has been dynamic with his arm and legs accounting for 628 yards of total offense and six touchdowns for an offense averaging 41.6 points per game.
