The Sandwich Indians will head out to take on the Newark Norsemen at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Sandwich was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Somonauk on Friday. The Indians were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Bobcats.
Arlo Budd spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Sandwich is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 11-13-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Braden Behringer and Griffin Somlock did most of the damage at the plate: Behringer went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs, while Somlock went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Behringer has become a key player for Sandwich: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-13-1 otherwise. Chase Clark was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Sandwich kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newark). Everything went their way against Ashton-Franklin Center on Friday as they made off with a 22-4 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Norsemen as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Newark's record is now 9-15. As for Sandwich, they now have a winning record of 15-14-1.
Sandwich might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Newark in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
