Middletown has gone 7-2 against Burrillville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Islanders will challenge the Broncos at 4:00 p.m. Middletown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Middletown proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by seven) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Toll Gate.
Kenny Pirches was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Pirches was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That stolen base was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Cam Carlisle was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Mike Lisella was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Middletown hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
East Greenwich hit Burrillville with a five-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Broncos came up short against the Avengers, falling 11-1. The Broncos haven't had much luck with the Avengers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Burrillville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chace Gavis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Middletown's record is now 11-5. As for Burrillville, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.
Burrillville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Middletown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324.
