Basketball Recap: Juniata Valley Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

After flying high against Moshannon Valley last Thursday, Juniata Valley came back down to earth. The Juniata Valley Hornets took a 49-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Williamsburg Blue Pirates. The Hornets have struggled against the Blue Pirates recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Juniata Valley lost on Monday, don't look at Aubrey Anderson. Despite the final result, she went 6 of 15 on her way to 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Anderson has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kassidy Watson, who posted six points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Juniata Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Williamsburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Levada Gorsuch led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Anastasia Ranalli was another key player, putting up nine points and six boards.

Juniata Valley's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8. As for Williamsburg, they pushed their record up to 17-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

When Juniata Valley and Williamsburg next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Juniata Valley will try to stop Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy's nine-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Williamsburg will square off against Southern Huntingdon County and their six-game winning streak at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
