Video: Female kicker earns All-State in Georgia
See some of the top highlights of the All-State kicker from Terrell Academy.Jenna Cuff of
Terrell Academy (Dawson, Ga.) completed an outstanding season for the Eagles. For her efforts, she was named to the Georgia Independent Schools Association All-State Team.
Nothing unusual about that. Except that Cuff plays football, she is the team's kicker, and she is the first female ever to make the All-State Team in the GISA, according to the association.
"I was very humbled. I was thankful. I just turned around and thanked my team," Cuff told WALB News. "Without them scoring, I wouldn't be able to kick."
The daughter of former Albany State record-breaking kicker Patt Cuff, Jenna made the Class AA All-State team. She helped the Eagles reach the semifinals of the state playoffs.
Cuff is not the first female from Georgia to earn a spot on an all-state team, however. According to Tim Morse of the Albany Herald, Tonya Butler of Riverdale earned GHSA all-state honors in the late 1990s. The GHSA is the state association for most of the state's public schools.
Nationwide, Katie Tribble of Flagstaff (Ariz.) is believed to be the first female to earn all-state honors. She was named to the Class 4A team by the Arizona Republic in 1993.
