Softball Recap: Academy for Classical Education Makes It Six in a Row at Home

Academy for Classical Education won the last time they faced Central and things went their way on Thursday too. The Gryphons blew past the Chargers 17-1. Considering the Gryphons have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Avery Edalgo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted over her last ten matches.

In other batting news, Sophie Denney was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Sydney Collins also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Academy for Classical Education was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.

Academy for Classical Education pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Central, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Academy for Classical Education will welcome Washington County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Central, they will host Howard at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
