The Huntington Park Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of Banning by a score of 31-28. Huntington Park lost against Banning in their previous head to head back in November of 2015, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 17-11 score last time.
Banning's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Melony Bernabe, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds. Bernabe also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Gonzales, who scored 11 points.
Huntington Park has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Banning, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.
Huntington Park will be playing at home against South Gate at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Banning's road trip will continue as they head out to face Carson at 4:30 p.m. on January 10th. Hopefully Carson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 last Friday.
