Westview has won three straight games at home, while Ramona has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Wolverines will host the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Westview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Westview is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Otay Ranch. That's two games straight that the Wolverines have won by just one run.
The team relied heavily on Charles Jaskowiak, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Zeke Gutierrez was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Ramona made easy work of La Jolla on Tuesday and carried off a 13-3 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Alex Wilson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 5.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Zack Nightingale was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tallon Ogilvie, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Ramona kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in five consecutive contests.
Westview's victory bumped their record up to 25-6. As for Ramona, their win bumped their record up to 22-8.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Westview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Ramona struggles in that department as they've averaged .336. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Westview got the 'W' in their previous meeting on May 8th against Ramona by a conclusive 11-3 score. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
