Wesclin extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 11-17. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Salem Wildcats. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2021.
Lucas Harriss was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Harriss wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Spencer Kuhn, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
As for Salem, their record is now 9-23. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against Wesclin since April 12, 2018.
On Salem's side, Brenden Smith looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kyler King, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli LoGrasso, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Wesclin will face off against Pinckneyville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Salem, they will take on Richland County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
