See the NFL superstar's niece, a budding softball star as wellMoriarty hit the jackpot this spring, showing the most improvement in baseball (chronicled last week) and softball, according to the
MaxPreps New Mexico Softball Computer Rankings presented by the Army National Guard. The Fighting Pintos improved by 32 positions with a 21-6 record and No. 32 ranking. Last year they were 64th with an 11-15 record.
Kirtland Central was close behind with an improvement of 29 positions, soaring from No. 59 at 9-17 to No. 30 at 20-11.
Three teams jumped 14 positions this year, with Mayfield (Las Cruces) the leader. It finished 19th with a 14-12 record, while it was No. 33 last year at 9-17. Lovington (11-16) rose to 41 after being ranked No. 55 with a 3-23 record. Next was Gadsden (Anthony), which finished No. 39 with an 11-15 record, much better than last year when it was 53 at 7-19.
The biggest loss this spring was pinned on Goddard (Roswell), which fell 45 positions to No. 65 with a 5-21 record. Goddard was 18-9 and ranked No. 20 last spring.
One team - Cibola (Albuquerque) - finished No. 31 both years.
