The Glendora Tartans will face off against the Rio Mesa Spartans at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Glendora sitting on three straight victories and Rio Mesa on seven.
Glendora is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They skirted past Canyon 4-3.
Riley Cooper was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastian Lawrence, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Rio Mesa sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Saugus on Friday.
Daniel Puebla spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rob Rodriguez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
Rio Mesa's victory bumped their record up to 20-10. As for Glendora, their win bumped their record up to 18-11.
Rio Mesa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Glendora hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. It's a different story for Rio Mesa, though, as they've only averaged .249. Will they be able to contain Glendora's hitters?
Glendora came out on top in a nail-biter against Rio Mesa in their previous matchup back in May of 2017, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Tartans repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
