Orange Cove and Corcoran are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but likely not for long. The Titans will challenge the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Orange Cove comes in on seven and Corcoran on five.
Orange Cove is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Woodlake. That's two games straight that the Titans have won by exactly three runs.
The result came thanks to Alexander Lizaola's shutout, as he gave up just five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brandon Gonzalez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Corcoran made easy work of California City on Tuesday and carried off a 14-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 13 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Corcoran also got a great performance from Jordan Ramirez as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Corcoran let Cruz Portillo and Brennan Botill run wild. Portillo got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Botill went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most hits Botill has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Espinoza, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Orange Cove's record is now 20-8-1. As for Corcoran, their record now sits at 21-6.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Orange Cove has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .457. However, it's not like Corcoran struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Orange Cove might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Corcoran in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
