Even though the Clearfield Bison have not done well against the Penns Valley Area Rams recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Clearfield snuck past Penns Valley Area with a 64-58 win. With that win, Clearfield brought their scoring average up to 50.6 points per game.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Clearfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cayleigh Walker, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Walker has scored all season. Hannah Glunt was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Penns Valley Area saw an underclassman step up: Lilly Smith scored 22 points along with seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Smith scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Romig, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds.
The victory (which was Clearfield's third in a row) raised their record to 8-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Penns Valley Area, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clearfield will take on Bedford at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Bedford will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 471st, while Clearfield is ranked 187th). As for Penns Valley Area, they will play host again and welcome Richland, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Richland is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
