While Montrose didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Eagle Valley Devils on Saturday as they made off with an 8-1 victory. Considering the Red Hawks have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Bentley Schiller made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Jaytli Cannizzo was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Emry Hall, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

The win was the third in a row for Montrose, bringing their record up to 6-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Eagle Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3-2.

Montrose has already played their next contest (against Grand Junction), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Eagle Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-0 loss against Rifle on the 9th.
