MaxPreps 2014 California Medium Schools All-State Baseball Team

Excelling at the plate and on the mound while leading his team to a section championship, Joe DeMers of College Park is the MaxPreps Medium Schools California State Player of the Year.

DeMers, who posted a 12-2 record with 94 strikeouts in 86 innings pitched, helped College Park win the North Coast Section Division 2 championship over Marin Catholic. In the championship game, he pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts and also went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

DeMers was also named the East Bay Player of the Year by the Contra Costa Times. He beats out Southern Section Division 3 MVP Scott Hurst of Bishop Amat and Southern Section Division 4 MVP Kyle Smith of Torrance for the top MaxPreps honor.

Neil MacDannald of Manteca is the Medium Schools Coach of the Year. He led the Buffaloes to a 25-3 record and the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4 championship with a 7-6 win over Vista del Lago. The Valley Oak League championship was the first in 30 years for Manteca.

“This year’s team wanted to leave a legacy that would be looked up to throughout the ages and I believe they’ve done that," MacDannald told the Manteca Bulletin.

The Medium Schools All-State Team consists of players who competed on teams that were members of section enrollment divisions that generally consisted of 1,000 to 2,000 students.
