Toughest game: While the Trinity League always provides tough competition, the Monarchs will head back to the National High School Invitational in Cary, N.C., in late March to defend their title in last year's inaugural tournament. The tournament once again features many of the top teams in the country.
Local outlook: Besides competing in the NHSI, the Monarchs will also play in the Boras Classic, which pits the top teams from Southern California against each other with the winner to face the Northern California champion. Meanwhile, the Trinity League features some of Southern California's top teams, most notably Orange Lutheran, which topped Mater Dei for the league championship last year.
Overall outlook: The Monarchs will have plenty of opportunities to prove they are the best team in the country. By participating in the NHSI, the Boras Classic and the Southern Section Division I playoffs, Mater Dei will essentially be competing in the three toughest tournaments in the nation.
Coach quote: "We have a lot of opportunities this year. Our goals are to play our best baseball every game. Our senior leadership should help us overcome any obstacles in our way."
