High school softball rankings: Four MaxPreps Top 25 teams set to compete for state championships in Texas this weekend

No. 2 Lake Creek, No. 3 Barbers Hill, No. 8 Katy and No. 10 Midway hope to cap marathon seasons with state crowns.

Texas takes center stage this weekend as four teams in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school softball rankings are set to compete for a state championship.

No. 2 Lake Creek (Montgomery) will take on Brewer (Fort Worth) in the Conference 5A Division 2 final Friday. The Lions (39-1), winners of 26 in a row, put up 15 runs in two wins against Liberty Hill in the semifinals as Maci Nowak and Sara Wiggins hit home runs.

Also Friday, No. 3 Barbers Hill (Mt. Belvieu) squares off against Aledo in the Conference 5A Division 1 championship game. The Eagles fell in the championship game last season to Melissa, the eventual national champion. Aledo has advanced to the semifinals or beyond in three straight years, knocking off aforementioned Melissa in the process this season.

No. 8 Katy has hit 97 home runs this year and meets Forney in the Conference 6A Division 2 final Saturday. Forney has won 25 straight games while Katy has 20 consecutive victories.

No. 10 Midway (Waco) also plays Saturday against Pearland in Conference 6A Division 1. The Panthers have signature wins this season over Katy, Aledo and Byron Nelson as they look to defend their state title.

In North Carolina, No. 13 Weddington (Matthews) will take on No. 18 D.H. Conley (Greenville) in a best-of-three state championship series beginning Wednesday. 

Weddington is undefeated with an average winning margin of 6.2 runs per game. D.H. Conley is back in the title game after going 25-2 this season.
