Video: Top 10 Games of the Week Austin showdown between Lake Travis and Westlake headlines weekend.
Lake Travis had a pair of losses to turnaround and did they ever Friday night with a wild 26-25 win over arch-rival and visiting Westlake in a showdown of Austin powers that highlighted Top 25 play in Texas.
Hudson Card threw his second touchdown of the fourth quarter, a 14-yarder to
Grayson Sandlin with four minutes remaining. After
Hays McCannon drilled the extra point, Lake Travis (6-1), ranked 25th in the state by MaxPreps, had a 26-25 lead and the defense did the rest.
The victory helped make up for losses the last two years to Westlake, 44-10 and 21-14. Before that, Lake Travis had won 10 straight in the series.
Westlake's
Kirkland Michaux broke a 10-10 tie with 2-yard TD run, giving his team a 17-10 lead in the third quarter. After a Lake Travis safety, Card gave his team a 19-17 lead with a 30-yard TD pass to
Kyle Eaves.
Cade Klubnik responded by firing a 20-yard touchdown pass to
Jackson Coker, giving Westlake back the lead 23-19 and after a two-point conversion it was 25-19 in the middle of the fourth quarter. Once again, Card and Westlake responded to give them the hard-earned victory.
In other Top 25 action, Allen, the nation's No. 14 team and the fourth-ranked team in Texas, raced to a 45-0 lead through three quarters before rolling to a 45-14 win at Plano East.
Top-ranked Duncanville (6-0) allowed two field goals in the first half and nothing more during a 28-6 win over Lake Highlands (3-3).
Second-ranked Katy (6-0), ranked 10th nationally, used a 95-yard kickoff return to start the second half by
Bryan Massey to rolled to a 45-3 win over Morton Ranch (4-3).
Just just 10-0 at halftime, the Tigers got things rolling after Massey's kick return as
Ronald Hoff had a TD run and catch and
Jalen Davis (40 yards) and
Sherman Smith (30 yards) broke off long touchdown runs.
