Creighton University commit Courtney Sandell is one tough out, and a heavy hitter, allowing her to establish herself as the most explosive player in Nebraska heading into the 2015 fall softball season.
For instance, as just a sophomore last year, the Malcolm infielder led Nebraska with a .573 batting average and was second in the state with a .619 on-base percentage, according to the MaxPreps softball stat database. Sandell also scored 42 runs and stole 23 bases, vaulting the 2014 Class C first-team all-state selection into the top spot of MaxPreps' Nebraska Top 10 for fantasy softball players heading into 2015.
Sandell looks to join forces with sophomore teammate Kylie DeBaets, who herself is in the Top 10 at No. 7 after scoring 28 runs of her own and knocking in an additional 31 runs in 2014.
While Malcolm landed a player in the top spot, Blair may have been the big winner in this fall's Nebraska fantasy softball sweepstakes. A pair of Bears seniors fall into place right behind Sandell, at Nos. 2 and 3. Maddie Kment is a 5-foot-5 middle infielder, while 5-8 Kailey Siemonsma plays first base and pitches for Jon Small.
Rounding out our Top 5 are Chadron sophomore Kylee Garrett and Sam Dellinger of Papillion-LaVista, who led the state with 17 home runs a year ago and thus turned in the state's top slugging percentage of 1.225. Dellinger also brought home the state's best RBI total of 56.
