The penultimate day of the Area Code Games in Long Beach, Calif., saw two teams remain undefeated while another ended its winless streak.
Both the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals are undefeated at Blair Field with the Royals finishing their five games at this year's Area Code Games at 5-0. Texas is 4-0 and had one more game to play on Wednesday.
The Cincinnati Reds, meanwhile, edged the winless Washington Nationals for their first win of the week.
Milwaukee Brewers 0, Chicago White Sox 0The Brewers and White Sox produced the second tie of this year's Area Code Games as neither was able to score a run in the first game on Tuesday.
Hunter Virant of Camarillo (Calif.) led the Milwaukee pitching attack with four strikeouts. Trey Ball of New Castle (Ind.) led the Yankee pitchers with three strikeouts.
Kansas City Royals 7, Oakland Athletics 5The Royals completed their run in the Area Code Games with a 5-0 mark after coming from behind to beat the Athletics 7-5.
Dylan Lavelle of Lake Stevens (Wash.) homered for the Royals.
Andrew Pullin of Centralia (Wash.) also had a bases-loaded double to score two runs in the Royals' five-run rally in the seventh inning.
Texas Rangers 9, New York Yankees 3The Rangers have the chance to be one of two teams to go undefeated at the Area Code Games after beating the Yankees 9-3 and moving their record to 4-0.
The Rangers complete their five-game run against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.
Texas put together a pair of three-run rallies to come from behind and top the Yankees. Leon Byrd Jr. of Cypress Ranch (Cypress, Texas) scored three times and had a base hit to lead the Ranger offensive while Sheldon Neuse of Fossil Ridge (Fort Worth, Texas) had two RBIs and two singles.
Wyatt Mathisen of Calallen (Corpus Christi, Texas) also had a pair of RBIs while Austin Dean of Acadania (Lafayette, La.) had two singles and a double with an RBI.
Cincinnati Reds 1, Washington Nationals 0The Reds and Nationals battled to a scoreless tie for six innings until A.J. Young singled in a run in the top of the seventh to give the Reds the victory. The win was the first of the games for Cincinnati (1-3) while Washington fell to 0-4-1.
Joey Gallo had the most effective stint on the mound for the Reds, striking out two batters in two hitless innings.
