High school girls basketball rankings: Ontario Christian cements No. 1 status in MaxPreps Top 25 after win over No. 3 Archbishop Mitty

Incarnate Word Academy jumps to No. 8 after 85-76 win over Long Island Lutheran at the Sophie Cunningham Classic.

Ontario Christian (Ontario, Calif.) cemented itself as the No. 1 team in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school girls basketball rankings over the weekend with a thrilling 96-87 double-overtime win over No. 3 Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.). 

Top-ranked junior Kaleena Smith shined on the national stage in the MaxPreps Game of the Week, dropping 50 in the victory including 35 after half.

Smith and the Knights can strengthen their resume this week if they return home unscathed from a challenging trip to the East Coast. Ontario Christian faces No. 2 Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.) on Friday at the Hoophall Classic, No. 14 St. John-Vianney (Holmdel, N.J.) on Saturday and caps the roadie off Monday against Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.), the No. 1 team in the National Top 10.

No. 8 Incarnate Word Academy (St. Louis, Mo.) made the biggest jump in the MaxPreps Top 25, climbing eight spots after an 85-76 win over Long Island Lutheran at the Sophie Cunningham Classic. The Red Knights got 31 points from St. Louis University commit Peyton Olufson, who was 6 of 7 from the field and 5 of 5 from beyond the arc.

1. Ontario Christian (Ontario, Calif.)

In addition to Kaleena Smith dropping 50 in the win over Mitty, Tatianna Griffin had 20 points and 18 rebounds.

Qandace Samuels had 21 points along with eight boards, seven steal an three blocks in a 58-47 win over No. 22 Monsignor Scanlan at the Capitol Hoops Challenge.

Five players tallied double figures in the loss to Ontario Christian. McKenna Woliczko led the way with 25, Ze'ni Patterson had 21, Maliya Hunter and Devin Cosgriff each scored 13 and Tee McCarthy added 10.

Jerzy Robinson scored 19 points as Emilia Krstevski added 14 in a 70-48 win over Mission Hills on Saturday at the Kay Yow Showcase.

5. Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.)

In a rematch of last year's state final, Aaliah Spaight poured in 31 points while Taylor Scandrick added 22, including six 3-pointers, in a 91-54 win over Centennial (Las Vegas).

6. Etiwanda (Calif.)

Arynn Finley combined to score 48 points in wins Friday and Saturday. Chasity Rice also scored 15 in a 69-49 win over Villa Park and added 21 in a 103-64 victory over Moreno Valley.

7. Princess Anne (Virginia Beach, Va.)

Tristan Rickenbacker and Micah Ojo each scored 18 in a 67-39 win last week over Catholic as the Cavaliers stretched their win streak to 57 games over the past three seasons.

8. Incarnate Word Academy (St. Louis, Mo.)

In addition to 31 from Peyton Olufson, Madison Perry scored 14, Libby O'Donnell added 13 and Savannah Stricker poured in 12 as the Red Knights beat Long Island Lutheran.

The Cadets rolled to 2-0 in WCAC play with a 67-43 victory last week over Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney, Md.)
