The Durango Fall Classic begins Friday in Las Vegas, setting off two days of action with a 64-team field that includes 13 teams in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school volleyball rankings.
No. 1
Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) is in search of its first title at the event after reaching last year's final. Coach Stefanie Wigfall's team is led by five Preseason MaxPreps All-Americans but will have no shortage of challengers in a field that features eight top 10 teams.
Prestonwood Christian or Cornerstone Christian could become the first team from Texas to bring home the Durango title.
The depth extends well beyond the top 10. No. 11
Torrey Pines (San Diego, Calif.), No. 15
Marist (Chicago, Ill.), No. 17
'Iolani (Honolulu, Hawaii), No. 21
Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.) and No. 23
Cathedral Catholic (San Diego, Calif.) round out the nationally-ranked teams expected to compete.
A handful of teams in our expanded rankings who sit just outside the MaxPreps Top 25 also could make noise if they advance out of Friday pool play into Saturday's qualifying round and the into the championship bracket, including reigning champion
Marymount (Los Angeles, Calif.) and first-time participant
Annapolis Area Christian (Severn, Md.).
Read on for who could make an impact on the court as well as past Durango champions.
