A rare non-tournament MaxPreps Top 25 battle last week saw No. 8 Marist (Chicago, Ill.) end the 71-match win streak of No. 10 Carroll (Fort Wayne, Ind.) 25-18, 29-27, 22-25, 25-14.

Michigan commit Maggie Kurpeikis led the way with 16 kills, eight digs and four blocks for Marist, which jumped up three spots in this week's rankings. Western Michigan pledge Taylor Berg chipped in 15 kills, 15 digs and four aces.

Carroll hadn't lost since Sept. 28, 2024. The Chargers got 16 kills from Katelyn Peters and Sarah Stegall added 13. Peters and Cala Haffner each notched 21 digs and Elli Oskey dished up 33 assists.

Both programs are chasing a third consecutive state title in their state's highest classification.

The Nike Tournament of Champions Southwest is front and center this week with No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) the top seed in the National Division. No. 3 Cornerstone Christian (San Antonio, Texas) and No. 16 Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.) also are in that division along with MaxPreps Top 25 newcomer No. 23 Hebron Christian (Dacula, Ga.).

No. 12 Norris (Firth, Neb.) headlines the Elite Division in the Nebraska squad's first trip to the event.
