High school football rankings: St. Augustine makes MaxPreps Top 25 debut after 52-14 win over Edna Karr

St. Augustine (New Orleans, La.) went from just outside the MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings to No. 19 after becoming the first team since 2023 to beat Edna Karr (New Orleans).

The Purple Knights didn't just beat them, they dominated the back-to-back Division I Select state champions 52-14.

Junior quarterback Jaelle Noble threw for 234 yards and five touchdowns to go with 73 yards rushing and two more scores. Class of 2030 standout Louis Brown III finished with three interceptions and took one back for a 99-yard score. St. Augustine is 21-2 over the last two years with both losses coming to Edna Karr last season. In California, Carson Palmer led No. 2 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) to its first undefeated regular season since 1997. Palmer was the starting quarterback on that team. The Eagles rolled to a 43-21 win over Orange Lutheran (Orange), improving to 10-0 and clinching the No. 1 seed in the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

That playoff bracket will feature four other teams in the MaxPreps Top 25 – No. 4 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth), No. 13 Mater Dei (Santa Ana), No. 20 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) and No. 24 Centennial (Corona).

No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale), No. 6 Columbus (Miami) and No. 17 Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood) will be three of the eight teams featured in Florida's inaugural Open Division tournament. The rankings feature the top eight teams eligible for the playoffs from the MaxPreps computer rankings. As of now, the other five teams would be West Boca Raton (Boca Raton), Lakeland, Raines (Jacksonville), Venice and Central (Miami). The tournament begins Nov. 13.

Sixteen MaxPreps Top 25 teams are idle this week due to byes or awaiting preliminary playoff results.
