Sophomore quarterback
Drew Mestemaker led Oklahoma State to one of the biggest wins in school history Saturday as the Cowboys knocked off No. 6 Oregon 39-30, throwing for 317 yards, running for 109 and accounting for three touchdowns.
The zero-star recruit out of
Vandegrift (Austin, Texas) never started a game at quarterback in high school as he primarily served as the team's punter while also playing defense at cornerback and safety as a senior.
Mestemaker was the team's backup quarterback during his junior and senior seasons.

As a junior, he completed 12 of 13 passes for 170 yards and three touchdowns for the 14-2 Vipers before connecting on 10 of 17 passes for 146 yards and two scores as a senior on a team that finished with a record of 10-1.
Mestemaker earned second team All-District 25-6A honors on special teams after averaging 34.7 yards per punt on 15 attempts while pinning his opponent inside their own 20-yard line six times during his senior campaign.
He entered college football as a walk-on freshman at the University of North Texas where he started his first fall camp as the team's fifth-string quarterback on the depth chart before working his way up to the back-up job during his redshirt season.
In 2025 as a redshirt freshman, Mestemaker led the FBS in passing yards as he completed 319 of 463 attempts for 4,379 yards and 39 touchdowns against just nine interceptions.
His career-high passing output came in a 54-20 victory over Charlotte when he completed 37 of 49 passes for 608 yards and four touchdowns. He led North Texas to a record of 12-2 before following his head coach coach to Stillwater in the transfer portal.
Oklahoma State went 1-11 last season and had previously lost 21 consecutive games against FBS opponents before the upset victory against Oregon. The Cowboys were fourth among teams receiving votes outside of the updated Associated Press Top 25 today.
