Highlights of Bishop Gorman's (Las Vegas, NV) 38-28 win over St John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) in the MaxPreps Game of the Week.

A'mir Sears put one a performance for the ages leading Columbus (Miami, Fla.) to a 33-28 upset win over No. 1 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) on Saturday. The five-star Miami pledge hauled in two touchdown passes to go with three interceptions.

Senior quarterback Kai Moore had a huge game throwing for over 400 yards and four touchdowns. The Explorers jumped out to a 20-0 lead and held off the Gaels late rally to improve to 2-0. Up next is No. 2 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) on Sept. 4.

The Raiders will become the new No. 1 team in the MaxPreps Top 25 on Monday after rolling to a 38-14 win over DeSoto (Texas) on Saturday. The seven-time defending state champs went into halftime with a 38-0 lead and the second half started with a running clock.

The last MaxPreps Top 25 matchup of the weekend took place in Arizona as No. 13 Basha (Chandler, Ariz.) beat No. 23 Chandler (Ariz.) 37-26 in a rematch of last year's Open Division championship. The Bears forced five turnovers and four-star running back Noah Roberts iced the game with a 10-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.

In Southern California, No. 6 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) topped No. 8 Centennial (Corona) 21-20 on Friday. With the game knotted up 14-14, Ca'ron Williams took an interception to the house. Centennial would score again to cut the deficit to one, but the extra-point was blocked.

American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) upset No. 24 East St. Louis (Ill.) 35-28 in overtime. The Patriots led 21-0 before the Flyers made a comeback to tie the game up and send it to overtime 28-28. In the extra frame, Neimann Lawrence found Michael Stringer in the end zone on his fourth throwing touchdown of the night.

Lee County (Leesburg, Ga.) handed No. 11 Carol City (Miami, Fla.) its first loss of the season. Carol City jumped out to a 20-8 lead thanks to a pair of receiving touchdowns from five-star Nicholas Lennear.

Lee County scored the final 15 points of the game. Cohen Lawson threw a touchdown to Destin Bell and Dominique Ball scored a rushing touchdown. The scoring got started on defense though for the Trojans when Kelvin Streeter returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown.

No. 16 Allen (Texas) won at home against No. 10 Duncanville (Texas) in the MaxPreps Game of the Week. Sophomore Ty Snell starred by throwing touchdowns to Zach Williams and Cylas Siciliano while Lyndon Spriggs rushed for a pair of scores to lead the Eagles to a 26-7 victory.

No. 3 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, Md.) hung on to defeat DeLand (Fla.) 49-35 in Florida on Friday.

Deland led in the first half and tied the game up 35-35 before St. Frances ripped off two strigahgt touchdwons to win their season-opener. Justin Merriman ran for a touchdown and threw for another in his first start for the Panthers. Sa’nir Brooks, Kentae Davis and Vegas Brown each scored two touchdowns for St. Frances Academy in the win.

Deland was led by quarterback Gardner Nordman who rushed for two touchdowns and led the Bulldogs on five total scoring drives.

No. 9 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) survived Orem (Utah) 32-26 Saturday night. The Monarchs held a 26-13 lead in the second half before Orem roared back to tie it up in the fourth. Twice Orem picked up a fumble and returned it for a touchdown.

Sophomore Asir Nembhard dominated in the running game for Mater Dei and scored three rushing touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with 3:58 left. Next up for Mater Dei is Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch), the No. 2 ranked team in Colorado.

The biggest game on Thursday took place in the Broward County National Football Showcase between No. 14 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) and No. 21 Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) and the Trailblazers rolled to a 24-7 win. They overcame four first half turnovers and outscored the Lions 17-0 in the second half to improve to 2-0.

Trent Seaborn continued his strong start to his senior year leading No. 20 Thompson (Alabaster, Ala.) to an impressive 37-13 win over Clay-Chalkville (Pinson, Ala.) to snap the Cougars 16-game win streak. Seaborn has thrown for eight touchdowns in two games and has led the Warriors to back-to-back quality wins over Central (Phenix City, Ala.) and the defending Class 6A state champs.

No. 17 Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) was the only other MaxPreps Top 25 team in action Thursday and started the year with a dominant 25-6 victory over Brophy College Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.). Last year's MaxPreps Sophomore of the Year Roye Oliver III didn't play but the Huskies defense took control early and accounted for two scores. J.J. Diaz returned a blocked field goal for a 95-yard touchdown and Kacey Allen Jr. added a pick-six.

No. 19 Brownsburg (Ind.), took down Rabun Gap-Nacoochee (Rabun Gap, Ga.) 31-15 Friday night. Oscar Frye had his second straight big week at quarterback by throwing three touchdowns, two of which went to Leo McQuillan.

No. 15 Carrollton (Ga.) rolled to a 61-6 win as sophomore quarterback C.J. Cypher threw six touchdowns.

Maliq Allen scored four touchdowns as No. 5 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) defeated Roman Catholic (Philadelphia, Pa.) 45-25. The senior had three rushing scores and a receiving touchdown from junior quarterback Koa Malau'ulu. The signal caller had two passing touchdowns. Next week the Braves head to up north to take on Pittsburg (Calif.).

No. 18 Hough (Cornelius, N.C.) defeated Cardinal Gibbons (Raleigh, N.C.) 35-10 at Bank of America. Quarterback Ethan Royal ran for a score and passed for three more, two of which went to Jahmere Anderson.
