The week before Christmas is always a defining time in the high school basketball season as holiday events dominate the scene.
The City of Palms Classic, 'Iolani Classic, Chick-fil-A Classic and Tarkanian Classic take center stage this week as 18 of the top 25 teams in the nation are participating in one of the four highly regarded holiday tournaments.
No. 14 Oak Hill Academy captures its eighth 'Iolani Classic title, defeating No. 17 Wasatch Academy 76-68 in the championship contest.
Centennial wins the Tarkanian Classic, knocking off No. 9 Bishop Gorman 71-55 in the Platinum Division title game. The Huskies defeated No. 13 Mater Dei, No. 22 Neumann-Goretti, Coronado and the aforementioned Gaels in their title run.
In the first semifinal of the City of Palms Classic, No. 5 IMG Academy took down Gonzaga 76-67 despite leading for just over five minutes of game action.
The second semifinal saw No. 1 Montverde Academy piece together a dominate 99-48 victory over No. 21 McEachern.
In the first National Division semifinal at the Chick-fil-A Classic, No. 8 La Lumiere held off No. 3 Prolific Prep 63-59 despite a 29-point outburst from Jalen Green in the second half, while Hillcrest Prep snuck by Huntington Prep 61-60 in the other.
