Torrey Pines has gone 6-1 against Mt. Carmel recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Falcons will look to defend their home field against the Sundevils at 11:00 a.m. Torrey Pines is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Torrey Pines heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Friday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (7-6), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Dolan Maher made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI. Logan Cole was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Mt. Carmel sidestepped Carlsbad for a 2-1 win.
Isaac Reese spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Mt. Carmel is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 11-12-1 otherwise.
At the plate, Nate Godbold was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. He has become a key player for Mt. Carmel: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one home run, but 13-14-1 otherwise.
Mt. Carmel hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carlsbad struck out seven times.
Mt. Carmel has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-14-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Torrey Pines, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-11.
Torrey Pines came out on top in a nail-biter against Mt. Carmel in their previous meeting on Wednesday, sneaking past 7-6. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Sundevils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
