Thompson remained firmly at the top of the MaxPreps Alabama Top 25 high school football computer rankings this week after handing No. 2 Hoover a decisive 39-23 defeat on Friday.
Gavin Shipman and
Jarrett Crockett made many of the big plays for the Warriors.
In a battle of 9-0 teams playing for a region title, Shipman returned an interception 76 yards for a touchdowns late in the first half to give his team momentum in the second half. From there, Crockett took over, rushing for 91 of his game-high 115 yards in the second half,
according to al.com. Thompson beat Hoover for the fifth time in the last seven tries. Crockett also rushed for three short touchdowns.
The Warriors got big games from quarterback
Conner Harrell (303 yards passing, two touchdowns) and top receiver
J.B. Mitchell III (six catches, 123 yards, two touchdowns).
Hoover (9-1), which remained at No. 2, got 114 yards passing from
Josh Lundy. But his first interception of the season proved costly. Hoover and Thompson figure to meet for the state 7A championship next month.
There was little movement in The Top 25 with Enterprise moving up seven spots to No. 17 after a 38-27 over previous No. No. 3 Auburn. Undefeated Glenville was the only team to move into the rankings at No. 25 following a 26-7 win over Pike Liberal Arts.
