There are a number of high school girls basketball players carrying
on a family legacy of athletic excellence. There are the
daughters, sisters and even granddaughters of former professional
athletes who have the pedigree and talent to succeed at a
high level.
Will they go on to reach the
professional level and stardom of their relatives? Only time will tell.
But for now, these ladies are blazing their own trail and making a
name for themselves on the hardwood.
Father: Gilbert Arenas, NBA All-Star guard
Season: Injured all season, she transferred from Notre Dame in February but won't be eligible until next year.
Father: Michael Beasley, All-American at Kansas State and NBA veteran
Season: Starting for the Crusaders, Beasley is averaging 7.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game. Beasley is a low-post defensive presence who also extends the Scanlan offense with her perimeter shooting ability.
Father: Kenny Britt, NFL wide receiver
Season: The 5-foot-10 freshman is averaging 12.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game for the Vikings. She dropped a season-high of 22 points in January against Plainfield.
Brother: Carter Bryant, San Antonio Spurs
Season: Headed to Kansas to play basketball and volleyball, Bryant has helped the Huskies to a 19-5 mark this season as they look to make noise in the Open Division state bracket. She is averaging 16.3 points and 15.7 rebounds per night.
Giovanna Burress, DePaul Catholic (Wayne, N.J.) Father: Plaxico Burress, NFL wide receiver
Season: The sophomore is averaging 19.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.6 steals per night for the Spartans. She has reached double figures in scoring in every game this season with a high of 32 in early January against Glen Rock.

Season: The junior is averaging 10.7 points and 11.4 rebounds per game for the Eagles. She had 10 double-doubles this season with a high of 22 points in January and 26 rebounds in November.
Father: Craig Counsell, manager of the Chicago Cubs and MLB veteran
Season: The Blue Dukes are 22-4 and the top seed in the Division 2 bracket behind the junior, who is averaging 21.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 3.8 steals per game.
Father: Erick Dampier, NBA veteran
Season: The 6-5 senior center is a Southern Miss volleyball commit but also played basketball and helped the Patriots win the MAIS overall championship.
Sydney Douglas, Corona CentennialFather: Rome Douglas, former NFL offensive lineman
Mother: Maylana Martin Douglas, former WNBA player and college coach
Season: A MaxPreps Freshman All-American last season at Ontario Christian, she is leading the Huskies this year with averages of 18.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.
Father: Chad Greenway, NFL veteran
Season: The Kentucky commit is not only chasing her fifth state title with the Lions, but is in a battle for the all-time state scoring mark. She is averaging 36.2 points per game and has scored more than 5,400 points in her career.

Season: The freshman has already scored more than 1,000 points in her career starting as a seventh grader. She is averaging 18.7 points per night along with 5.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds for the 22-4 Lions.

Season: A North Carolina commit, the 5-10 senior is looking for her second state title in three seasons while averaging around 24 points and 11 rebounds for the War Eagles, who have reached the Class AAAA quarterfinals.

Season: The junior is averaging 25.5 points and 11.2 rebounds per night for the Centurions, who won their fifth straight TSIAA state title. She has totaled more then 2,800 points heading into her senior season.
Shiloh Johnson, Windward (Los Angeles, Calif.)Father: Marques Johnson, NBA All-Star
Season: The 6-foot sophomore averaged 7.0 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game for the Wildcats, who open the Division 1 postseason against Mater Dei on Wednesday.
Brothers: Kevin Knox plays for the New York Knicks while her other brothers Karter and Kobe are Division I basketball players at Arkansas and South Carolina, respectively.
Season: The 6-foot senior is averaging 20.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per game for the Crusaders, who fell in the Class 3A quarterfinals.
Mother: Kim Clijsters, four time tennis Grand Slam winner
Season: She has scored more than 1,500 career points after transferring from St. Rose in the offseason.
Father: Donovan McNabb, former NFL quarterback
Season: An Indiana softball commit, she is leading the Gators with 8.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per night. Xavier College Prep finished the season 16-13 after falling in the Class 6A quarterfinals.
Father: Adrian Peterson, NFL MVP and seven-time Pro Bowl selection
Season: The sophomore is leading the Skippers with 15.2 points per night as they look to be a player in the Class AAAA postseason.
Brother: Michael Porter Jr., NBA player
Season: The Texas A&M commit became the school's all-time leading scorer and rebounder recently. She topped 2,000 career points and 900 rebounds as the Bruins look for a Class 6 title run.
Isabella Ragone, Mill Creek (Hoschton, Ga.)Father: Dave Ragone, NFL veteran and coach
Season: A Notre Dame commit, the 6-2 guard missed her senior season with an ACL injury.

Season: No stats were available for 5-8 junior as the Bulldogs went 5-13 this season.
Mother: Mariam Sy, WNBA veteran
Season: The 6-4 senior is averaging 29.2 points and 15.9 rebounds per night as the Quakers are 19-7. The Maryland commit recently passed 2,000 career points.
