See Shyla Latone, who scored 76 on Friday, in a game earlier this month.
There's a new scoring machine in Southern California.
Shyla Latone of
Bonita Vista (Chula Vista) dropped 76 points on Friday, good for fourth all-time in California behind Cheryl Miller (twice) and Lisa Leslie.
Latone's career night helped the Barons cruise to a 99-26 win over Hilltop (Chula Vista). The senior was 30-of-43 from the floor, including 10-of-15 from beyond the arc. The 76-point mark toppled the San Diego Section mark of 71 set in 2002 by by San Diego's Charde Houston, who went on to win a WNBA title with Minnesota.
Miller holds the state mark of 105 points in 1982, while Leslie scored 100 in 1990 and didn't play the second half. Miller also dropped 77 in a game in 1981.
It's the fourth time this season Latone, a 5-foot-4 guard, eclipsed the 50-point mark, with her previous high this season being a 57-point outburst in a 107-75 Jan. 10 win over Montgomery.
Latone has scored 864 points already this season and 2,755 for her career.
University of Texas freshman and former Southern California standout
Destiny Littleton averaged 42 points per game last season in high school for The Bishop's (La Jolla), including a 68-point night.
