2025 MaxPreps High School Baseball Underclass All-America Team

Matthew Sharman of Etowah (Woodstock, Ga.), Blake Lundy of Baylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Luke Esquivel of Grapevine (Texas) headline the MaxPreps Underclass All-America Team, which recognizes the top 30 juniors, sophomores and freshmen in high school baseball during the 2025 season.

While Gio Rojas of Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, Fla.) is a junior and was the MaxPreps National Player of the Year, Sharman has been selected as the nation's top junior in an effort to spread the wealth. Not only did Sharman bat .467 this year with six home runs, he also posted a 13-1 record with 137 strikeouts for a team that was ranked in the MaxPreps Top 25 for most of the season.

Lundy is the Sophomore of the Year after earning MaxPreps Tennessee POY honors. He led all sophomores in the nation with 15 home runs and was a first team pick on the MaxPreps All-American squad.

Esquivel is the Freshman of the Year after leading Grapevine to a state championship. He was 11-1 on the mound and earned a spot on the MaxPreps All-American second team. He was also the  All-Area Player of the Year by the Dallas Morning News.

Selections were based more on production during the 2025 season, team success and postseason honors rather than potential at the college or professional level. Juniors

P — Wilson Andersen, Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.)
A former member of Team USA, Andersen was the ace for the Tigers as he went 9-3 with 105 strikeouts and a 1.04 ERA in 67 innings pitched. He also batted .286 with 21 RBI, seven doubles and five home runs.

P — Carson Bolemon, Southside Christian (Simpsonville, S.C.)
The Class 3A Player of the Year went 11-0 with a 0.00 ERA and three no-hitters. He also struck out 135 batters in just 55.1 innings pitched. He batted .374 with 25 runs, 35 RBI, 11 doubles and seven home runs.

P — Gio Rojas, Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, Fla.)
Led Stoneman Douglas to a No. 2 national ranking and fifth-consecutive state championship. He went 13-0 with a 0.72 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched. He came up big in the state playoffs against Alonso, striking out a season-high 16. He also batted .375 with 24 runs, 32 RBI, eight doubles and two home runs.

P — C.J. Sampson, Tomball (Texas)
Shared Pitcher of the Year honors on the All-Greater Houston team with teammate Karson Reeder after going 12-2 with a 0.93 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 90 innings pitched.

P — Karson Reeder, Tomball
The other half of Tomball's dynamic duo, Reeder went 12-2 with 116 strikeouts and just 18 walks with a 0.94 ERA in 96 innings pitched.

P — Brayden Harris, St. Johns Country Day (Orange Park, Fla.)
A two-way standout, Harris earned All-First Coast honors with an 11-0 record and 149 strikeouts and a 0.55 ERA in 76.1 innings pitched. He also batted .391 with 20 runs, 27 RBI, nine doubles and a home run.

P — Evan Vincent, Teurlings Catholic (Lafayette, La.)
The Class 4A Player of the Year led the Rebels to a state championship. Went 10-0 on the mound with a 1.26 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched.

P — Savion Sims, Edmond Santa Fe (Edmond, Okla.)
Named to the Oklahoman's All-State team, Sims is throwing close to 100 miles per hour and is a potential first round pick next year. He went 5-0 with a 1.73 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 32.1 innings pitched.

P — Matthew Sharman, Etowah (Woodstock, Ga.)
All-State by the Georgia Dugout Club and the region player and pitcher of the year, Sharman batted .467 with 38 runs, 37 RBI, seven doubles and six home runs. He dominated on the mound with a 13-1 record, 1.47 ERA and 137 strikeouts in 80.2 innings pitched.

P — Gary Morse, Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.)
The Orange County Register's Pitcher of the Year went 8-2 with 65 strikeouts and a 0.94 ERA in 52.1 innings pitched.

C — Joey Lawson, Bishop Verot (Fort Myers, Fla.)
One of the national leaders with three no-hitters, Lawson was 9-1 with 113 strikeouts and a 0.72 ERA in 68.1 innings pitched. He also batted .350 with 35 runs, 38 RBI, 13 doubles and 11 home runs.

C — John Stowers, St. Paul's Episcopal (Mobile, Ala.)
An  All-State pick by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, Stowers already has 26 career home runs after hitting 12 this year. He batted .381 with 39 runs, 46 RBI and 14 doubles.

C — Keaton Mathis, Valley View (Jonesboro, Ark.)
Named the MaxPreps Arkansas POY, Mathis led Valley View to a Class 5A state championship with a 10-0 record, 1.68 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 54 innings pitched. He also played catcher and batted. 402 with 38 RBI, 10 doubles, two triples and two home runs.

1B — Dominic Santarelli, St. Joseph (Kenosha, Wis.)
The MaxPreps Wisconsin Player of the Year, Santarelli led St. Joseph to a state championship. He batted .428 with 40 RBI, 10 doubles, three triples and 11 home runs.

1B — Cy Chrisman, Maple Mountain (Spanish Fork, Utah)
The national leader in home runs with 19, Chrisman was the MaxPreps Utah POY while batting .461 with 59 RBI, 46 runs, five doubles and two triples.

IF — Coleman Borthwick, South Walton (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.)
The Northwest Florida Daily News pegged Borthwick as its Athlete of the Year after he batted .471 with 37 runs, 51 RBI, 10 doubles, four triples and six home runs for a team that reached the state final.

IF — Matt Ponatoski, Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, Ohio)
The MaxPreps Ohio Player of the Year in football and baseball, Ponatoski batted .462 with 27 runs, 37 RBI, seven doubles and four home runs.

IF — James Clark, St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.)
The Braves won the Southern Section and Southern California Division 1 championships behind the play of Clark. The shortstop made the CIF All-Southern Section Division 1 team and was the Player of the Year on the Long Beach Telegram Dream Team. He batted .411 with 29 runs, 12 RBI, 11 doubles and four triples.

IF — Anthony Del Angel, Cleveland (Rio Rancho, N.M.)
The District 1-5A Player of the Year also earned All-Metro honors by the Albuquerque Journal. He batted .534 with 28 RBI and seven home runs.

IF — Keon Johnson, First Presbyterian Day (Macon, Ga.)
Rated by Perfect Game as one of the top players in the nation, Johnson batted .523 with 10 home runs, 68 runs scored, 47 RBI and 25 stolen bases.

IF — Tyler Spangler, De La Salle (Concord, Calif.)OF — Brady Harris, Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, Fla.)
Named to the All-First Coast team, Harris led the Conquerors to the state championship game by batting .400 with 16 runs, 20 RBI, nine doubles, two triples and two home runs.

OF — Malachi Washington, Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.)
The MaxPreps Georgia POY, Washington led the state in home runs with 15 while posting a .538 batting average and a 1.160 slugging percentage. Also had 59 RBI, 13 doubles and four triples.

OF — Anthony Murphy, Corona (Calif.)
The top power hitter for the Panthers, Murphy earned All-Southern Section Division 1 honors while batting .415 with 11 home runs. He also scored 39 runs, had 35 RBI, six doubles and two triples.

OF — Graham Charboneau, Kingwood (Texas)
An All-State choice by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association and the Hitter of the Year on the All-Greater Houston team, Charboneau led Kingwood to a state championship by batting .405 with 42 RBI, 43 runs, 12 doubles, three triples and nine home runs.

OF — Kevin Roberts, Jr, Jackson Prep (Jackson, Miss.)
Named to the Mid-South Atlantic Independent Schools All-State team, Roberts batted .406 with 30 runs, 17 RBI, nine doubles and three home runs.

OF — Nate Davis, Bishop Moore (Orlando, Fla.)
David earned All-Area honors by the Orlando Sentinel as he batted .415 with 36 runs, 31 RBI, 13 doubles, six triples and seven home runs.

UT — Sawyer Nelson, South Salem (Salem, Ore.)
A Class 6A All-State selection, Nelson dominated at the plate. He batted .543 with 47 runs, 63 RBI, 13 doubles and 13 home runs.

UT — Drayton Mitchell, Calallen (Corpus Christi, Texas)
The state tournament MVP and an All-South Texas selection by the Caller Times, Mitchell had a 10-0 pitching record with 56 strikeouts and a 1.77 ERA in 47.1 innings pitched. He also batted .394 with 34 runs, 44 RBI, 11 doubles, five triples and three home runs.

UT — Taj Marchand, James Island (Charleston, S.C.)
The MaxPreps South Carolina Player of the Year led James Island to a Class 5A Division 1 championship while batting .514 with 38 runs, 49 RBI, 12 doubles and 12 home runs. He also had a 6-1 pitching record with a 1.85 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 43 innings pitched.

Sophomores

P — Drew Davis, Sumrall (Miss.)
The MaxPreps Freshman of the Year last season batted .410 with 37 runs, 30 RBI, 11 doubles, one triple and three home runs. He also posted a 9-1 record with a 0.81 ERA, and 87 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched.

P — Baylor Denny, Casteel (Queen Creek, Ariz.)
Denny made the Class 6A All-Conference team with an 8-0 record and a 2.57 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 51.2 innings pitched. He batted .344 with 32 RBI, nine doubles and four home runs.

P — Hayes Maginnis, Newnan (Ga.)
Led Newnan to a state championship with a win in the first game of the series against Houston County. He had 81 strikeouts on the season with a 0.84 ERA.

P — Grant Sperandio, Memorial (Houston, Texas)
A member of the All-Greater Houston team, Sperandio went 11-0 with a 1.06 ERA and 91 strikeouts with just 12 walks in 66 innings pitched.

P — George Ferguson, Abilene (Texas)
Made the All-Big Country team by the Abilene Reporter after going 6-1 on the mound with a 0.60 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 46.2 innings pitched. He also batted .375 with 12 runs, 21 RBI and three triples.

P — Logan Bristol, North Broward Prep (Coconut Creek, Fla.)
Named to the All-Broward County team by the Miami Herald, Bristol posted a 7-3 record with a 2.35 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 50.2 innings pitched.

P — Cooper Vais, Arvada West (Arvada, Colo.)
With an 8-1 record and a 1.29 ERA, Vais made the Class 5A All-State team. He also had 93 strikeouts in 54.1 innings pitched. At the plate, he batted .347 with 34 runs, 22 RBI, seven doubles, one triple and five home runs.

P — Brady Cunningham, Brother Rice (Chicago, Ill.)
Cunningham had a 6-0 record with a 1.85 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 53 innings pitched. He also batted .395 with 18 doubles, four triples and four home runs to go with 39 runs scored and 29 RBI.

P — Jared Grindlinger, Huntington Beach (Calif.)
Ranked as one of the top players in the class by Perfect Game, Grindlinger earned All-County honors by the Orange County Register. He had a 5-0 record with a 0.87 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 32.1 innings pitched. He also batted .343 with 13 runs, 17 RBI, five doubles and two home runs.

P — Tyler Scarborough, Lovejoy (Lucas, Texas)
The Newcomer of the Year on the Dallas Morning News All-Area Team, Scarborough posted a 1.35 ERA with 110 strikeouts.

C — Broder Katke, Brother Rice (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.)
Batted .382 with 36 runs, 41 RBI, 16 doubles, two triples and two home runs.

C — Blake Lundy, Baylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.)
Division II-AA Mr. Baseball and the MaxPreps Tennessee POY, Lundy led the state in home runs with 15. He batted .440 with 41 RBI, 28 runs and six doubles.

C — Will Brick, Christian Brothers (Memphis, Tenn.)
Named to the All-State team by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association, Brick batted .413 with 15 doubles, 3 home runs, 39 runs and 21 RBI.

1B — Frankie Thomas, IMG Academy Black (Bradenton, Fla.)
The son of Hall of Fame slugger Frank Thomas Jr., Frankie batted .544 with 39 runs, 41 RBI, seven doubles, three triples and five home runs.

1B — Colton Floyd, Sandia (Albuquerque, N.M.)
A heavy hitter for the state champions, Floyd made the All-Metro team by the Albuquerque Journal after batting .526 with 42 RBI, 16 doubles and eight home runs.

IF — Graham Houston, Venice (Fla.)
Named to the Sarasota Herald's All-Area team, Houston batted .391 with 30 runs, 20 RBI, one double, one triple and two home runs.

IF — Trip Ostergard, James IslandAddison made the Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State team after batting .406 with 28 runs, 26 RBI, five doubles, one triple and two home runs.

IF — Lubin Rincon, Shadow Creek (Pearland, Texas)
Rincon is ranked as the No. 1 shortstop in the state of Texas by Perfect Game. He batted .527 with 25 runs, 14 RBI, nine doubles, two triples and two home runs.

IF — Colton Temple, Fort Cherry (McDonald, Pa.)
The Class 2A Player of the Year batted .621 with nine doubles, one triple, 10 home runs, 28 runs and 36 RBI. On the mound, he was 7-2 with a 3.23 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched.

IF — Chase Fuller, Lincoln (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Made the All-Big Bend team after batting .267 with 26 runs, 17 RBI, five doubles, one triple and five home runs. He also had a 3-0 record with a 2.33 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 27 innings. Ranked as the No. 1 player in the Class of 2027 by Perfect Game.

OF — Lash Henderson, Prestonwood Christian (Plano, Texas)
Made the Dallas Morning News All-Area team after batting .359 with 22 RBI and three home runs.

OF — Nico Mortiz-Toledo, Battlefield (Haymarket, Va.)
Batted .371 with 34 runs, 30 RBI, nine doubles, two triples and two home runs.

OF — D.J. Lowery, Knoxville Catholic (Knoxville, Tenn.)
Made the Tennessee Baseball Reports Super Sophomore team while batting .339 with three doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 40 RBI.

OF — Caden Dawson, Blessed Trinity (Roswell, Ga.)
Named to the All-State team by the Georgia Dugout Baseball Club, Dawson batted .393 for the state champions. He also had 32 runs, 23 RBI, seven doubles, one triple and three home runs.

OF — Grant Westphal, Blue Valley (Stilwell, Kan.)
Named to the Kansas Baseball Coaches Association All-State team with a .404 batting average, 33 runs, 12 doubles, one triple and four home runs.

OF — Jacob Seamon, Metrolina Christian Academy (Indian Trail, N.C.)
Made the NCISAA Class 4A All-State team and led his squad to the state final. He batted .361 with 41 runs, 22 RBI, seven doubles, one triple and 10 home runs.

UT — Bryce Fontenot, Cherokee Bluff (Flowery Branch, Ga.)
Among the home run leaders in the state with 13. Batted .371 with 42 RBI, 33 runs and seven doubles.
 
UT — Drake Hawpe, Liberty Christian (Argyle, Texas)
Named to the All-Area team by the Dallas Morning News, Hawpe batted .438 with 28 RBI and four home runs.

UT — Sebastian Wilson, IMG Academy Black
Batted .526 with 36 runs, 53 RBI, nine doubles, four triples and nine home runs.

Freshmen

P — Luke Esquivel, Grapevine (Texas)
The top freshman in the nation, Esquivel earned Player of the Year honors on the Dallas Morning News All-Area team. He pitched Grapevine to a Class 5A state championship with an 11-1 record, 1.46 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 86.1 innings pitched. He also batted .434 with 38 runs, 31 RBI, 16 doubles and four triples.

P — Hudson Mitchell, Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, Ala.)
Named to the Class 7A All-State team by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, Mitchell had 11 wins and a 1.11 ERA.

P — Brock Bailey, Blue Valley Southwest (Overland Park, Kan.)
Selected to the All-State team by the Kansas State Coaches Association, Bailey had a 6-0 record with 30 strikeouts and 0.76 ERA in 37 innings pitched.

P — Carlos Acuna, Birmingham (Lake Balboa, Calif.)
The Los Angeles Daily News picked Acuna as the area's top newcomer with a 7-1 record and a 1.12 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 62.1 innings pitched.

P — Taegan Tate, Amarillo (Texas)
Earned newcomer of the year honors for his district after going 6-3 on the mound with a 2.28 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 55.1 innings pitched. He had one no-hitter and 13.1 straight no-hit innings.

P — Brennan Botill, Corcoran (Calif.)
After leading Corcoran to the Southern California Division V final, Botill made the Fresno Bee's All-Area team. He batted .368 with 17 RBI, 39 runs, six doubles and three triples. He also went 12-1 with a 1.34 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 73 innings pitched.

P — Anson Bright, South Panola (Batesville, Miss.)
Named All-State by the Mississippi Association of Coaches, Bright had 98 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched with a 1.35 ERA. He also batted .300 with 21 RBI, two doubles and three triples.

P — Gavin Chakar, Norwalk (Conn.)
Chakar was an effective pitcher for the Class LL semifinalists as he had 37 strikeouts and a 1.05 ERA in 20 innings pitched.

P — Billy Miller, Kouts (Ind.)
Miller made the Class 1A All-State team as a utility player. He batted .514 with 54 runs, 45 RBI, 12 doubles, four triples and five home runs. He also had 99 strikeouts and a 0.61 ERA and 57 innings pitched.

P — Brayden Krakowski, St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.)
Made the Long Beach Press-Telegram' Dream Team after posting a 5-0 record with a 0.91 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 46.1 innings pitched for the Southern California Division 1 champions.

C — Adriel Rivera, Katy (Texas)
Named the Newcomer of the Year on the All-Greater Houston Team, Rivera batted .250 with six doubles, 15 RBI and one home run.

C — Grant Arnold, Merritt Island (Fla.)
Earned All-Space Coast honors after batting .310 with 33 runs, 17 RBI, eight doubles and a home run.

C — Brogan Witcher, Liberty (Bakersfield, Calif.)
An all-league choice for Liberty, Witcher was among the home run leaders among freshmen in California with eight. He also batted .326 with 26 runs and 18 RBI.

1B — Anthony Frausto, Davenport (San Antonio, Texas)
The Newcomer of the Year by the San Antonio News Express, Frausto batted .414 with 24 RBI, 28 runs, three doubles, six triples and a home run.

1B — Quincy Fulton, Newton (Ill.)
Ranked as one of the top players in the class by Perfect Game, Fulton batted .355 with 27 runs, 19 RBI, five doubles and four home runs.

IF — Aaron Garcia, St. John Bosco
Named to the Long Beach Telegram's Dream Team, Garcia had 15 runs and two doubles for the Braves.

IF — Lio Garcia, Buford (Ga.)
Batted .438 with two home runs, 26 RBI, 37 runs, eight doubles and three triples.

IF — Sawyer Roberson, Lake County (Tiptonville, Tenn.)
Named the Freshman of the Year in the state by the Tennessee Baseball Report, Roberson batted .481 with 34 runs, 20 RBI, 14 doubles, two triples and a home run. He also added 28 stolen bases.

IF — Riley Salvemini, Woodland (Calif.)
The Sacramento Bee picked Salvemini to its All-Metro team as he batted .576 with 41 runs, 42 RBI, 13 doubles, seven triples and three home runs. He also had an 8-1 record with a 1.36 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 56.2 innings pitched.

IF — Jordan Ayala, Norco (Calif.)
Made the Riverside Press-Enterprise All-Inland Empire team after batting .278 with 16 runs, 19 RBI, and six doubles. He also had an 8-4 record with a 1.10 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 63.2 innings pitched.

IF — Colin Anderson, Etowah (Woodstock, Ga.)
Named to the All-State team by the Georgia Dugout Baseball Club, Anderson batted .396 with 45 RBI, 11 doubles, two triples and eight home runs.

Named to the Missouri Baseball Coaches Association All-State team, Zumwalt was 7-0 on the mound with 71 strikeouts and a 1.04 ERA in 40.1 innings pitched. He also batted .474 with 42 runs, 41 RBI, nine doubles and 12 home runs.

OF — Carver Cohn, McHenry (Ill.)
Among the leading hitters for the Class 4A state finalists, Cohn batted .378 with 27 RBI, 10 doubles, four triples and four home runs. He also set a school record with 61 runs.

OF — Ethan Stewart, D.H. Conley (Greenville, N.C.)
Made the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association All-State team with a .423 batting average, 22 runs, 42 RBI, five doubles, one triple and six home runs.

OF — Camden Dean, Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas)
Made the Dallas Morning News All-Area team after batting .350.

OF — Koltyn Watters, Adams (Rochester, Mich.)
Named to the Michigan State Baseball Coaches Association Dream Team, Walters batted .469 with 45 RBI and a .562 slugging percentage.

OF — Joel Vargas, Eastlake (Chula Vista, Calif.)
Earned a spot on the All-CIF San Diego Section team by batting .311 with 22 runs, 14 RBI, 12 doubles and two home runs.

UT — Caleb Hernandez, Doral Academy (Doral, Fla.)UT — Ben Robinson, Waxahachie (Texas)
The district newcomer of the year started at shortstop for the Indians, batting .353 with 16 runs, 19 RBI, four doubles and one triple.
