The West Valley Eagles have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 54-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of University Prep on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to West Valley of the 46-42 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why West Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kayla Wiley. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 18 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Rainessa Matthews, who scored 11 points.
West Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 15-6. As for University Prep, they pushed their record up to 16-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
West Valley will take on Yreka at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Yreka will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 564th, while West Valley is ranked 191st). As for University Prep, they will head out on the road to square off against Anderson at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
