Phil Baumgart's Franklin boys basketball program took one of Riley Bombeck's best shots two weeks ago – and lost. Averaging 19 points, 10.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 3.3 steals and 1.7 blocked shots during a 2-1 start to the Bulldog season, Bombeck produced the Cornhusker State's only triple-double reported to MaxPreps in Shelton's 81-39 win over Franklin Dec. 2.
The 27 point, 13 rebound, 10 assist, six steal and four blocked shot performance in the 42-point win allowed Bombeck to claim the top individual boys basketball performance early on in the Cornhusker State.
Carter Nelson of Ainsworth took the No. 2 spot after falling one blocked shot short of his own triple-double. Nelson scored 20 points, pulled down 13 rebounds, dished out three assists, swiped a pair of enemy balls and swatted nine shots from West Holt shooters in a 51-46 triumph.
Omaha Benson's Ke'Von Newsome, meanwhile, posted 17 points, 10 rebounds, an assist, nine steals and two blocked shots to fall just short of his own triple-double, earning the No. 3 rung during a 60-35 loss to Omaha Bryan.
Luke Kasten of Potter-Dix was credited with a 24 point, 10 rebound, seven assist, six steal and one blocked shot performance in a 68-18 win over Creek Valley to claim the No. 4 spot while Maywood/Hayes Center's Hayden Farr rounded out the Top 5 with 22 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and seven steals in a 63-41 triumph over Southwest, Dec. 2.
Mitchell's Jaron Anderson and Desmonde Smith sit eighth and tenth respectively this week, giving the Tigers bragging rights as the only Cornhusker State school to land multiple players in the Top 10 this week.
Classes A, C1, C2, D1 and D2 are all represented in this week's Top 10. But plenty of Class B athletes are off to fast starts as well. York's Garrett Ivey put forth a 12 point, one rebound, 11 assist and five steal effort in an 81-41 win over Lexington to lead Nebraska's second largest classification.
In order to be considered for this week's Top 10, an athlete had to produce a double-double and compete at a high level in another category. The statistics used for this week's Top 10 were pulled from MaxPreps' statistics database Monday evening.
