The Woodbridge Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Laguna Beach Breakers at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodbridge is coming into the game hot, having won their last 11 games.
Woodbridge is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Chino an 11-0 shutout. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.
Vincent DeMarco made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kyle Underwood was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. JJ Metcalf was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Laguna Beach, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against Highland on Thursday by a score of 3-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
Branson Wade spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Laguna Beach is 8-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 9-10 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lincoln Adams, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Woodbridge's record now sits at 19-10. As for Laguna Beach, their record is now 17-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Woodbridge has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Laguna Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Woodbridge skirted past Laguna Beach 5-4 in their previous matchup back in March. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Breakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
