Mercy hit Omaha Central with a six-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monarchs.
Edie Titus was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She tossed 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Nichole Palfini and Macy Andrews stepped up to the plate in a big way. Palfini went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run, while Andrews went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Katelyn McClure was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Millard West came tearing into Tuesday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Patriots. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Addison Burdorf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Lily Van Boskirk and Addie Abboud did most of the damage at the plate: Van Boskirk went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Abboud went a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave Abboud a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Wenz, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Millard West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Millard West's record now sits at 21-7. As for Omaha Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-11.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Omaha Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Millard West struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
