The Bartlett Hawks will venture away from home to square off against the Conant Cougars at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Bartlett will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Bartlett came out on top against Riverside-Brookfield on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Hawks walked away with a 5-2 win over the Bulldogs.
Bartlett saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Leiterman, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another was Vince Yario, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Conant took on Wheeling on Friday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Wildcats. Considering the Cougars have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Joseph Garza made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Mason Hopkins looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Andrew Miller, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Alex Martinez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Bartlett's record now sits at 15-8. As for Conant, their record is now 14-7-1.
Bartlett beat Conant 10-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
