After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Shafter, the Taft Wildcats were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They took down McFarland 57-43. The high-flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Taft considering their 16-point performance the game before.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Taft to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alaysia Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Taylor has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taira Leota, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.
McFarland lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mia Samaniego, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Jocelyn Vallejos was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Taft is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-13 record this season. As for McFarland, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-20.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Taft will take on Chavez at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Chavez is coming into the matchup with four straight victories on the road, so Taft is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for McFarland, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Kennedy at 6:30 p.m. Kennedy will be up against McFarland's rather soft defense (which has allowed 58 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing.
