Baseball Recap: Santa Clara Wins Going Away Against Del Mar

Santa Clara won the last time they faced Del Mar and things went their way on Saturday too. Santa Clara was the clear victor by a 13-2 margin over Del Mar. Considering the Bruins have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Charles Conley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Traffas, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Drew Diffenderfer also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Santa Clara always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Del Mar only posted an OBP of .200.

The win made it two in a row for Santa Clara and bumps their season record up to 8-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Del Mar, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santa Clara will square off against Cupertino at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Del Mar, they will face off against Ann Sobrato at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
