The Arvin Bears came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They slipped by Foothill 56-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Leading Arvin to victory were Emily Soto and Roxana Fernandez. Soto scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Fernandez dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten steals. Fernandez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassandra Torres, who scored six points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Foothill lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bryana Montoya, who scored 18 points. Tiara Jackson was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 11 rebounds and five steals.
Even though they lost, Foothill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arvin only pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.
Arvin's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-10. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Foothill, their loss dropped their record down to 9-15.
Arvin will head out on the road to face off against Mira Monte at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Arvin is facing Mira Monte at the right time seeing as Mira Monte is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Foothill, they will be playing at home against Golden Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Foothill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Thursday.
